From this platform we are working on various projects to investigate Witbuikegels. This happens because we have done little thorough research into the species and we are hardly aware of more knowledge to improve the housing of these animals and hopefully can eradicate a number of health problems.

Genetik

In the genetics project we collect data of coverings and nest results, we investigate the operation of various colors and distinguish them into genetic codes. Not only can you calculate the color of the boy after a cover with genetics and check which patterns are inherited in the line. You can associate various weaknesses or diseases with specific genes, such as ‘megacolon’ in rats in the husky variation. By doing good surveillance and breeding under good observation, you can easily improve these types of feces and improve the overall health of a species. And that is precisely our goal through these investigations.

Gewichtszunahme

This project arose after the repeated question of beginner breeders: “How much does a pregnant / young animal average?” We could not give a clear answer to both categories, and so this project was created. A healthy animal will arrive well during growing up and during pregnancy. A weighing directive is therefore a very useful way to see if an animal is doing well when it has no clear symptoms of disease. Especially with worm contamination, egels can continue for a long time and eventually become very skinny. Often they lose some weight, but are not yet visible thin. Then early intervention is so easy, and there is a need for a directive.

In this project we have two categories:

  1. Hoglets of 0-8 weeks
  2. Pregnant hedgehogs
