Construction of the Hedgehog Dome in Sixhaven, Amsterdam

On March 28, the first real Amsterdam Hedgehog Dome was completed in the Sixhaven area in Amsterdam-North, with the help of a number of volunteers of the Hedgehog working group of Amsterdam-North.

Historically, the Sixhaven area was home to many hedgehogs, but due to the arrival of the North-South Line, their habitat was transformed into a construction site for a long time. As a result, a large part of their rugged, undisturbed living area disappeared. Other amenities were added, such as a vegetable garden and a dog playground. However, dogs pose a threat to hedgehogs.

This coming season, new trees and shrubs will be planted in Sixhaven Park. With the addition of a Hedgehog Dome in this area, we are trying to create a sustainable shelter where they can hibernate safely, undisturbed, and dry, and where they can sleep safely during the day.
